Recently on LinkedIn, a woman was raising funds and asking for job recommendations for her friend, who lost her husband due to Covid-19, leaving behind two school-going children and sick parents. The lady had left her job so as to manage her kids and family, while her husband would earn. Eventually, today this kind of situation is a reality of millions of women who lost their only-earning husbands/family members in these times of pandemic. Although, there are a lot of organizations and people who are helping women deal with these issues, but at the end, a women has to herself make a way out by taking up the responsibility and learn to deal. After all, nobody can help you forever right!

So, these times gives us all a very important lesson, that is, to be financially independent irrespective of who you are. The unprecedented times literally teaches us to be self-sufficient in whichever way possible to take care of your loved ones and yourself. In various cultures around the world, women are not taught about managing finances, assets or investments as that compared to men. Perhaps, since ages, it’s seen that women should look after family and men should earn; and maybe that’s one of the reason why the responsibilities are not equally divided among genders yet.

But, now the times have changed and these things can no longer be considered as ideal way of living. So, as a man, its important to share duty of managing home and as a woman, its necessary to share the responsibility of managing finances and earnings. Maybe if you don’t need the money, save it or don’t use it. But refraining from managing finances or earning can just not be a good option.

Even if your earnings are as minimum as 50$ or even lesser, learn to invest that or manage your small savings and so you can be updated with the world reforms. Just give in some time from your day, google or binge on YouTube for learning about managing finances or earnings and one day you’ll surely thank me.

Lastly, if your ever in fix, remember this:

“No matter where you go in life, or who you get married to, you have to be financial independent. You don’t know which curve balls life will throw at you. Hence you need to have the ability to take care of yourself and people whom you love. It gives you the ability to protect yourself when life happens, to stand on your own feet and say that alright I can do something about it without being helpless.” — Priyanka Chopra
